RCH Programme was sanctioned in the year 2000-2001 to NPSS under Mother NGO scheme by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India, New Delhi, for six districts of Kanpur division: Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Etawah, Auraiya, Kannauj and Farrukhabad. This continued on year to year basis up to the year 2004-05. The programme was implemented by 20 FNGOs (frontal NGOs) of the districts with following objectives:

  • Mothers' healthcare through antenatal care, natal, safe delivery and post natal care
  • Children's healthcare through immunisation and nutrition
  • Family planning services to the target couples and stabilisation of the population
  • Awareness generation about RTI/STD and prevention of HIV/AIDS

Seeing the successful implementation of the project, Government of India continued the project under RCH-II for another three years from the year 2005-06, but reduced the number of districts from six to two following revision of guidelines. The districts now being covered are: Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat. Now the project is underway through eight FNGOs.

Training for project formulation has been given to FNGOs and on the basis of traning inputs they prepared their individual proposals. Composite proposals of MNGO for both the districts developed have been developed and submitted to district NGO committee for recommendation and State RCH society for final approval.
