Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) is an autonomous organisation functioning as miniature form of National Literacy Mission in the districts for realising different objectives of the NLM. NPSS is running JSS in Unnao district under since 1997. JSS is covering all the 16 blocks and 1,756 villages of the district.

Main goal of JSS is to improve the quality of lives of the target groups (especially non-literates neo-literates and educationally backward people belonging to the deprived sections of the society) through income generation by providing vocational training linked with Life Enrichment Education (LEE).

The major objectives of JSS Unnao are:

  • To improve the quality of life of the target groups by providing income generation activities linked with life enrichment education
  • To provide a platform to develop occupational skills and technical knowledge of neo- literates with a special reference to Scheduled Castes/Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to raise their productive ability
  • To provide academic and technical resource support to Districts Literacy Committee
  • To coordinate with Continuing Education Centres
  • To organise training and orientation course for key resource persons and master trainers on planning and implementation of skill development programmes under the scheme of continuing education
  • To widen the range of knowledge and understanding of social, economic and political system in order to create awareness about the environment
  • To organise equivalency programme through open learning systems
  • To promote national goals such as secularism, national integration, population stabilisation, education promotion, conservation of environment, etc.

The key functions of JSS are:

  • To improve occupational capabilities through vocational training
  • To imparts life skills through educational and awareness generation
  • To act as a District Resource Unit (DRU) in the field of non-formal adult and continuing education
