Forestry

New Public School Samiti (NPSS) implemented the Participatory Forest Management and Poverty Alleviation Project (PFMPAP) in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve Forest Division in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh.

PFMPAP is a transformative initiative aimed at restoring degraded forests while improving the livelihoods of local communities. The project focuses on sustainable forest management, environmental conservation, and poverty alleviation.

One of its key objectives is reforestation and afforestation, reversing the negative impacts of deforestation and habitat degradation. By restoring forest ecosystems, the project enhances biodiversity and strengthens ecological resilience. Additionally, it promotes Joint Forest Management (JFM), fostering collaboration between local communities and forest authorities to ensure responsible and sustainable forest practices.

Beyond environmental conservation, the project prioritises community development, recognising the strong interdependence between forests and local livelihoods. It empowers communities through capacity building, skill development and alternative income generation programmes, enabling them to achieve economic stability while preserving natural resources. By integrating environmental and social goals, the project creates a harmonious balance between human development and nature conservation.

With its holistic approach, the PFMPAP contributes to regional environmental improvement and poverty alleviation, ensuring long-term sustainability and well-being for both people and forests.
